Which Juicer or Blender to buy, or even should you bother getting one at all? Juicers are all the rage now, and getting a quality juicer for a good deal can take some web surfing to say the least. Should you go for a Nutri Bullet, Centrifugal Juicer or a Masticating Juicer, a CentriTube or not, the choices go on and on. Price will more than likely be your main deciding factor, but the are loads of different choices even for around similar prices of cheap blenders and juicers. So let's have a look at the ins and outs of the best blenders and cheapest juicers from the big electrical appliance retailers.
Because there is so much choice out there for a quality blender, it's easy to let your budget run away with you. Find out what yours is and stick to it. You can find a cheap juicer for around £30. Now a quality blender or juicer can go up to £350, these do make claims of extracting more, and better quality juice, from the fruit and veg you put in it. Independent test have shown this too not always be true and in the cases that more juice has been extracted, the amount is marginal, to borderline insignificant. Now that's not to say the expensive blenders and juicers are not any good. They'll have some great features, like a larger feed chute, so you'll no longer have to chop up the fruit and veg you're juicing and a foam separator jug so your juice is foam free. You do get these features, and even a couple more on the quality juicers that you can get for around £100. So there's really not too much need to go up to the £350 mark unless money isn't too much of an issue and you really like the look and features of the real top end juicers and blenders.
Like we touched on earlier, there are 2 types of juicers and blenders. They are centrifugal juicers or masticating juicers. Which one you go for is probably decided on your budget, as masticating juicers are usually more expensive. Centrifugal juicers are the most popular, like the well known Nutri Bullet, and are usually a cheaper blender too. We'll break down the pros and cons of each juicer below.
Centrifugal Blenders: These are the ones you've seen where the blades are located at the bottom of the juicer in a fix position. As the ingredients hit the blades then the juice will separate from the pulp and filter into a jug or cup at the bottom. Generally these centrifugal blenders aren't as good at juicing, and should be taken into account when you're buying them. The main brands of centrifugal juicers and blenders are: Nutri Ninja Blender, Nutri Bullet Blender, Braun Juicer and Bosch Blender. One thing to note is that Braun and Bosch also do masticating blenders too.
Masticating Blenders: These can sometimes be know as cold press juicers, or slow juicers. These work by fruits and veg are crushed into slowly rotating gears and then the juice is pressed out through a perforated screen. They either use one set of gears, or sometimes two on the better models. The better ones can be used for a wide variety of things, from grounding coffee, to making pasta. These juicers are better for soft fruits, leafy greens and also have a varied range of options of what can be done with them. On the downside, they are pretty expensive, and there's lots of parts to clean. Main types of masticating blenders and juicers are: Hotpoint Slow Juicer, Vitameister and Kenwood Blend.
The centrifugal style juicers, like the NutriBullet and really simple to clean. All the juice is stored in it's own cup. Simply blend all the fruits and veg, open it up, wash out the blades and the housing that the juice is in, now becomes your drinking cup. Rise that out when done and all good. Masticating style juicers take a little longer, but some really aren't as bad as they can be made out to be. There's generally some taking apart to do. If done straight after juicing, then usually the parts can just be raised under warm running water. This takes a little longer, but not that hard really.
Masticating juicers and blenders are the best at separating the juice from the pulp and have a better range of fruits and veg that you can put in it. They can be more expensive though, and take a little longer to clean. Centrifugal juicers, or blenders, as with the popular NutriNinja and NutriBullet, you don't actually separate the juice from the pulp. These are great for convenience, and easy to use and clean. They are also cheaper too. If you're are after more of a blender style mixer, for protein shakes and smoothies for example, then these are just about the best things you can pick up.
Argos are great for having some good stuff at the lower end of the market. Perfect for first time buyers wanting a fairly decent cheap blender and not having that big of a budget. They also have a pretty cool hand pressed juicer. Not we didn't go over these in are run down of juicers. But we think you can guess how they work. Not practical for a lot of juicing, but if you're not doing much blending, maybe some fresh orange juice on a Sunday morning, then these would be perfect. They also look pretty cool and have a bit of a vintage feel.
